A man believed to be in his forties was killed last night when he was struck by a train, police tell 1200 WOAI news.

It happened on the city's northwest side, where the railroad tracks run parallel to Interstate 35, at the Walzem Road exit.

Police say the freight train sounded it's horn and the man, who was walking on the tracks, either didn't hear the whistle or ignored it.

He was dead at the scene.

Railroad officials stress that the railroad tracks are the private property of the railroad, and walking on or near them is not only dangerous, it is trespassing.
