A major fire on the city's east side this morning forced more than a dozen people out of their apartments, and several had to be treated for smoke inhalation and other minor injuries, Newsradio 1200 WOAI reports.

  The fire broke out about 1AM in an old two story homes in the 300 block of East Carson.  The home had been broken up into eight apartments.

  The first fire crews on the scene reported people in upper story apartments and firefighters had to help them getting to safety.

  Flames were shooting out of the building with firefighters arrived.

  No serious injuries have been reported.

  So far, there is no word on a cause of the fire.
