The family of Ft. Hood gunman Ivan Lopez has released a statement where they ask for prayers for the victims of Wednesday's shooting.

Lopez grew up in Puerto Rico and his family still lives there.  The release, written in Spanish, quotes the father as saying "The situation is painful" for them and the victims and they are "praying for all those affected."

Lopez's father goes on to say that his son could not have been in a good mental state, and he was "not this way."  He describes his son as a calm, family man who is young and hard working.

As for a motive, his father is quoted in the release as saying that his son was going through treatment for mental problems and the recent death of his mother and grandfather affected him.

The release reads that this is the only statement the family will be making.
