The famous ‘Rain Rock’ has it’s work cut out for it as it was hoisted over La Villita today in preparation for the opening of Night in Old San Antonio tomorrow, 1200 WOAI news reports.

Despite the fact that rain is in the forecast, NIOSA President Barb Machado says she is confident it will leave La Villita alone.

“On, no, it’s not going to rain,” she said.  “It doesn’t say it’s going to rain, and it will not.”

The Rain Rock has kept NIOSA dry since the early 1970s.  Its based on an old cowboy tradition that if a rock with a hole through the middle is hung on a fence, rain will stay away.

We’ll see.  NIOSA opens tomorrow night and runs through Friday.
