The eight finalists for the 2014 American Humane Society Association Hero Dog Awards have been announced and San Antonio's own Kai is one of them!  She won in the "Arson Dogs" category now goes up against the winners of the seven other categories.

Kai is a 6-year-old Black Labrador Retriever who was originally a shelter rescue dog that has been with the SAFD for almost four years.  She is the department's only Accelerant Detection Canine, trained to detect petroleum based hydrocarbons like gasoline and charcoal lighter fluid.  She also makes appearances and goes to school demonstrations.

All eight finalists will receive $1,500 for their chosen charity, and the winner will receive an additional $5,000.  Kai's partner is "Project Paws Alive."

You can vote for Kai every day through Monday, September 15th, here.  Feel free to bookmark the page on your browser so you remember.
