As women, we put others first. Our family, our friends, even our co-workers. But you can’t always do that and stay sane! Next time you need a break but think you shouldn’t take one, remember these things:
- You’re not being selfish. If you aren’t happy and healthy, how can you take care of others?
- The people you love care about you, too. They would be devastated to know you weren’t getting the care you need. Even your toddler wants Mommy to be happy.
- You’re teaching others how to treat themselves. Your kids emulate you so you definitely want what’s best for them. They need to learn that it’s ok to take care of themselves first sometimes.
- You get more done. Being alert and happy helps keep you motivated. How can anything get done when you’re exhausted and negative?
If you’re struggling to put yourself first, schedule it out. It doesn’t have to be every day. Plan a quick shopping trip by yourself, or get a massage, or just go for a walk around the block. Anything you love to do that gives you a little “me time.” You deserve it!
