Taylor Swift Makes Rare Political Statement To Back March For Our Lives

At the top of the weekend, Taylor Swift used her voice to take a public stance in support of March for Our Lives, the upcoming Washington D.C. protest to demand safer gun control laws.

On Friday afternoon (March 23), the pop titan took to social media to show her backing for the Saturday protest with a lengthy note. "No one should have to go to school in fear of gun violence. Or to a nightclub. Or to a concert. Or to a movie theater. Or to their place of worship," Swift wrote. "I’ve made a donation to show my support for the students, for the March For Our Lives campaign, for everyone affected by these tragedies, and to support gun reform. I'm so moved by the Parkland High School students, faculty, by all families and friends of victims who have spoken out, trying to prevent this from happening again."

March for Our Lives started as a response to the February mass shooting that took 17 lives at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland after a former student opened fire. In addition to the march, the students have created a petition asking elected officials to pass a law to ban the sale of assault weapons, prohibit the sale of high-capacity magazines and close loopholes in background checks that allow "dangerous people who shouldn't be allowed to purchase firearms to slip through the cracks."

Swift is just the latest celebrity to show her support for the movement behind fellow pop stars like Justin Timberlake, Ariana Grande, Harry Styles and more.
