Government Employees Can Get Free and Discounted Services in San Antonio

These are places I've found, but if you know of other companies helping, please let me know.  We need to get the word out to anyone who may be feeling the effects.

2M SMOKEHOUSE - on Fridays get two free pulled pork tacos and salsa (no substitutes or exceptions), when employees show an ID card. 2731 S WW White Road

PALENQUE GRILL - is offering a 50% discount in food for federal employees and immediate family, and 30% discount in food for federal employee plus one who visit our restaurant. Just show your ID to the host or waiter before you order. 15900 La Cantera Pkwy,

VIA - Fare-free rides will be available to federal workers for the duration of the government shutdown on all VIA mainline bus service, including Prímo and VIVA, and VIAtrans paratransit service.  Just show your government employee ID to the bus or van operator.

THE SIKH CENTER OF SAN ANTONIO - providing free vegetarian meals to anybody affected by the shutdown on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Sikh Dharamsal is also providing free vegetarian meals, all day from Friday through Monday.

UNIVERSITY OF COSMETOLOGY ARTS & SCIENCES - offering a free haircut or classic manicure to furloughed workers.  Bring your government ID. 2 locations:  4522 Fredericksburg Road, A-85 and 910 SE Military Drive, Suite 100.  Make an appointment, click here

TEXAS DIAPER BANK - Government employees and contractors affected by the furlough who enroll at the Texas Diaper Bank up to February 1st, will be eligible to receive 6 months of services – free of charge.

SAN ANTONIO MUSEUM OF ART - offering free museum admission to federal employees during the shutdown.

MCNAY ART MUSEUM - offering free museum admission to federal employees and a guest during the shutdown. All you need is a valid government ID.

THE MAGIK THEATRE - has reserved up to four free tickets per furloughed government employee for the opening weekend of Dr. Seuss's classic, The Cat in the Hat. Tickets can be picked up in person at the theater's box office on 420 S. Alamo St. for one of three performances.

HILLEY & SOLIS LAW FIRM - creating wills for free for furloughed government workers while the shutdown continues – just bring a federal employee ID. The firm, which handles employee, criminal, personal injury, and insurance law, is also looking to hire a furloughed employee. 

THE SAN ANTONIO SYMPHONY and the TOBIN CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS - offering free tickets to Classics or Pops performances to those affected by the government shutdown, starting the weekend of Jan. 25. Simply show a valid government ID at the Tobin Center box office for two free tickets.

SAN ANTONIO HUMANE SOCIETY - Free bag of dog or cat food while supplies last. Website: SA Humane Society
