Meghan Markle Had Lessons On How To Drink Tea Before Meeting The Queen

The Duke And Duchess Of Sussex Visit Fiji - Day 2

Marrying into the royal family is no walk in the park, as Meghan Markle has learned since wedding Prince Harry back in 2018. From dealing witu intense media scrutiny to learning royal protocol, a lot more goes into a royal marriage than simply saying "I do." According to The Daily Mail, Meghan took matters into her owns before her wedding day. This Duchess-to-be wasn't about to drink tea or handle a fork the wrong way in front of Queen Elizabeth, so, she took lessons to learn how to "properly" do those things.

Ahead of her wedding day, Meghan reportedly signed up for tea lessons with Edmund Fry, a London-born etiquette expert and owner of the Rose Tree Cottage tea room in Pasadena, California. As the Daily Mail tells it, Meghan's lessons lasted two hours. She learned how to "handle" a fork and how to drink tea the right way. Yes, there is apparently a "right" way to drink tea, especially in the presence of long-reigning monarch who happens to be your future husband's grandmother.

"She enjoyed it so much that she wanted to come back," Fry spilled about his lessons with Meghan. "The younger generation doesn't know what bone china is and certainly don't know anything about how to handle a cup and saucer, or how to handle a knife and fork."

"They come to us mainly to find out, 'What should we do, as we are having this social event?'" Fry explained. "The same sort of thing happened with Meghan. She knew she would be having tea with the Queen. Here, they really do not know what to do. What we have found is that we give them a little information if they are interested and watch what happens."

"'Like everybody who comes here, they want to know "well do I hold the cup and saucer like this?" "Is it this alright if I leave the spoon like this?" "Do I ask for more tea and does it matter if the cup is put on the plate like this?" "What is the plate for?" Fry continued. "A lot of people actually do very strange things for tea. They move the plate, they don't know what to do with the napkin and don't know anything about what they're doing. She wanted to know the comfort of sitting."

Though the Queen has reportedly banned any mention of Meghan in polite conversation after a series of PR blunders this summer, Meghan, at least, will know what to do with her fork and tea when they two meet to patch things up.
