To celebrate that milestone and anniversary, MC dropped a Joseph Kahn-directed clip for the signature holiday track and it features her children, Monroe and Rocco. In the four-minute video, which was released on Friday (December 20), a young bi-racial girl (a nod to her own background) sees a statue of Carey in a festive window display, but everything changes when Santa grants her the magic ability to walk into it and see Carey in the flesh. Inside of the snow globe-esque land, the young girl is treated to the classic track as she's surrounded by background dancers, animated stuffed animals and the aforementioned appearances from Dem Kids and Carey's dog, Cha Cha.
In a live Q&A hosted by YouTube, Carey spoke about the new video, admitting that the clip is quite "the opposite from the original video." "We wanted to make a modern classic and that has been the theme from the beginning," the pop titan said in a lengthy red gown prior to the video's release. "This is more of a production but I feel like it has the same spirit if not more."
In addition to landing atop the Hot 100, her new cover story for Billboard and her Empire State Building appearance, Carey has also been on a three-night stint on The Late Late Show With James Corden. Just last night, she performed the holiday classic and it was just as festive of a production as you could imagine. Click here for more on that!
