The Texans are moving on from a longtime defensive standout. According to reports, Houston is set to release defensive end Whitney Mercilus. The pass rusher had been drafted by Houston back in the first round in 2012. He posted 57 sacks over his 10 seasons with the club, which ranks second all-time behind J.J. Watt. It's another end of an era for a longtime Texan, following the departures of DeAndre Hopkins, who was traded to the Cardinals in 2020, and Watt, who signed with Arizona this past offseason. The Texans are just 1-and-5 on the season.
