You Can Prevent Chronic Illnesses Just By Standing More Often

Here's today's feel-good story:

A new collaborative study out of Finland shows that standing is associated with better insulin sensitivity and could prevent chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

Type 2 diabetes is one of the most common diseases worldwide and can happen when insulin sensitivity is impaired.

It is known that sedentary behavior like sitting and lack of physical activity can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

“This association has not been shown before. These findings further encourage replacing a part of daily sitting time with standing, especially if physical activity recommendations are not met,” says Doctoral Candidate Taru Garthwaite from the University of Turku.
