Céline Dion Opens Up About Her Late Husband, Mental Health, and L'Oreal

It's been over a decade and Canadian singer, Céline Dion, is ready to hit the road again and tour North America. For nearly 16 years fans have gone to Las Vegas to witness just a bit of the magic only Dion can deliver. “I think there was a miscommunication. I was supposed to be there for two months,” Dion joked during a special live event at the Los Angeles Theatre at the Ace Hotel. “We kept going on and on and on and on.”

Although the event was filled with grand performances and a live Q&A from fans, it was Ellen K who had a special one-on-one with Céline where she reflected on her late husband, destigmatizing mental health, remaining beautiful within, and so much more.

The 51-year old superstar is welcoming a new venture in her life as the face of L'Oreal. Dion has signed on to be the French personal care company's global brand ambassador as of this week. In the past, the My Heart Will Go On singer has been vocal about her battle with feeling beautiful. During her one-on-one interview with Ellen K, Céline gave some insight as to why she decided to take on the role at her age.

"You want to feel confident, you want to feel strong, you want to feel beautiful, whether it's for (hair) roots, make-up, or not. They (L'Oreal) are giving the opportunity to every woman to feel at their best and that they can conquer the world...and that's why I took that as a big honor because they could have asked me at 28 when I was looking good," she joked. During an interview with People, Celine said that, “I’ve never felt as beautiful, as strong, and I really think that the best is yet to come.”

"I just turned 51 and I decided that I was not going to be 51," she added.

Beauty is what you make of it and the songstress wasn't shy to talk about the times in her life that were overcast with negativity. Ellen K asked Céline about her history with being bullied over her appearance. The All By Myself singer noted that our voice is the most important thing we have to battle any negative emotions one may face.

"The fact that people now have a voice now and they speak..It's about time, we have to."

In a world filled with stigmas surrounding mental illness and such, Céline advocates for those effected to reach out and talk to someone, anyone. Write down your emotions if that's better for you.

"What I encourage every single person in the world (to do), is to speak and talk about their emotions, whether its a friend, a member of the family, a neighbor, or someone they don't know. Say it. Sometimes you can't say it, then write it."

That advice has gotten Dion a long way. Today she welcomes happiness with open arms and finds fun from the various roles of her life.

"I'm having fun pretty much everyday. I'm having fun because I'm a mother. I'm having fun because I'm a daughter...because I'm a friend. Because I've had the best husband. Because I have three magnificent kids...But mainly, because I've been the best of myself. I was not in competition with the world. I was in competition with me."

Sadly, if you'll recall, Céline lost her husband-manager René Angelil to a battle with cancer in 2016. The pair, who were married for 21 years shared three children together- Rene-Charles, 18, and eight-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy.

Ellen and Céline bonded over their shared experience with the loss of a close one. Ellen sadly lost her mother 3 weeks ago and asked Céline if she has witnessed any spiritual signs coming from her late husband, René."

"For example, when I sing, I was never alone. He always sang with me. I did more duets than people think because he sang with me every song. Through the eyes of my children, everyday, he's alive. I still see him."

Although her love for the music and fans is stronger than ever, what brings her the most joy in life is spending time with her three children who are each a reminder of her late husband. Céline admitted that sometimes she thinks that her children are raising her because each day they teach her something new about herself.

"It's the miracle of life to have children. It's just the most important job of my life."

Her three children will not be joining her on her upcoming tour this time around, but will definitely be there in spirit.

The Courage World Tour officially kicks off September 18th, 2019 in Quebec City, Canada.

“I’m so grateful to all the fans who have come to see my show in Las Vegas for so many years, and now I get the chance to create a brand new show and bring it to them in North America, and around the world," Dion added, joking that, “The biggest news today, is I will be driving the bus on tour."
