Avoiding Negative Thoughts During A Crisis

As humans we have a tendency to have automatic negative thoughts. Originally our brains developed to worry constantly in order to keep us alive. But the predisposition toward fear and concern can interfere with living our best lives. And right now with a lot of sadness, fear, stress, and more that's happening...well, you're probably dealing with a lot of negativity. So let's help fight that right now:

Don't believe everything you think. Those negative thoughts seem like absolutes. But are they?

Get specific. Don't let the negativity spiral and pile up. Pick one thing to focus on at a time.

Control what you can.

Compartmentalize. Rather than focus on big problems and big solutions, break things down to some concrete action you can take.

Give yourself time to worry but also give yourself vacation time from your worries.

Help yourself by helping others. You might be surprised at how good you'll feel after doing something (even something small) to help.

Be with happy people. Emotions are contagious so make sure you surround yourself with happy people!
