Sanitizer has an expiration date. That's because over time, its alcohol content dissolves. Once it gets below 60% alcohol it's just not as effective against germs. Know that if a bottle remains unopened, it should retain much of its alcohol strength and can still be used.
Also know that some new bottles produced under a temporary Food & Drug Administration (FDA) policy to step up production may not have an expiration date listed. These new bottles of sanitizer are expected to be used during the current public health emergency and not linger in the back of a closet for years.
