I did not realize that bleach expires and color-safe bleach doesn't disinfect. I mean, it makes sense. I just never thought about it.
An article published by Reader’s Digest explains that the production code on the neck of the bottle shows you the age of their bleach.
”Clorox breaks it down by using the example code A81421321CA3. Moving from left to right, the plant number is ‘A8,’ the last two numbers of the year it was made is ’14,’ and the day of the year the bottle was made is ’213.’ That translates to a bleach bottle being made on the 213th day of the year, or August 1st, 2014,” according to Reader’s Digest.
Color-safe bleach does not disinfect like regular bleach does because they have different active ingredients. Color-safe bleach uses hydrogen peroxide while regular bleach has sodium hypochlorite. The EPA also doesn't include Clorox 2, or color-safe bleach, on their list of approved disinfectants.
