Ways To Recycle Your Pumpkins

Halloween is tomorrow. You'll probably be taking your decorations down in the next few days in favor or more traditional fall decor or maybe even Christmas (no judging!). So what do you do with your pumpkins? PLENTY!

You Can Eat Most Pumpkins. Toasted pumpkin seeds make a healthy snack, and you can use fresh pumpkin puree in any recipe that calls for the canned version.

Pass Along Your Pumpkins. See if you can donate leftover pumpkins to zoos, animal shelters, farms, or community gardens. They'll be grateful for the compost material or animal snacks.

Feed the Birds. Just cut a pumpkin in half horizontally, empty the cavity, and fill it with birdseed.

Create Compost. Because they're mostly water, they decompose quickly, but it'll go even faster if you break them apart first.

Play With Your Pumpkins. Try pumpkin bowling or look for a pumpkin chucking catapult event in your area for a chance to send your pumpkin flying through the air

Feed the Wildlife. Once you're done displaying your pumpkins, cut them up into fourths and place pieces around your yard. Deer, rabbits, and other creatures will make short work of them. Unless your pumpkin is painted. The paint could be toxic if ingested.
