How To Prevent Maskne

Maskne (or mascne), which is the shortened term for mask acne, has become so prevalent this year. It doesn't just effect teenagers, either. Men, women, young, old...everyone's dealing with it. I know it's driving me crazy lately.

Types of mask-induced acne include:

  1. Acne-caused by putting on moisturizers and makeup underneath your mask
  2. Irritant dermatitis—when the skin gets irritated by chemicals the mask may contain
  3. Seborrheic dermatitis-caused by humidity and occlusion that can lead to dry, red, itchy skin

Stress can also play a major factor.

Neutrogena has a few tips to keep maskne at bay that include the following:

  • Wash your mask after every use
  • Wash your face to cleanse away dirt, oil, and bacteria
  • Wear an oil-free moisturizer
  • Skip the makeup
  • Exfoliate
  • Try not to touch your face.
  • Don't let your mask get wet or damp. Keep other masks handy just in case.
