Maskne (or mascne), which is the shortened term for mask acne, has become so prevalent this year. It doesn't just effect teenagers, either. Men, women, young, old...everyone's dealing with it. I know it's driving me crazy lately.
Types of mask-induced acne include:
- Acne-caused by putting on moisturizers and makeup underneath your mask
- Irritant dermatitis—when the skin gets irritated by chemicals the mask may contain
- Seborrheic dermatitis-caused by humidity and occlusion that can lead to dry, red, itchy skin
Stress can also play a major factor.
Neutrogena has a few tips to keep maskne at bay that include the following:
- Wash your mask after every use
- Wash your face to cleanse away dirt, oil, and bacteria
- Wear an oil-free moisturizer
- Skip the makeup
- Exfoliate
- Try not to touch your face.
- Don't let your mask get wet or damp. Keep other masks handy just in case.
