One of my best friends lost her father last week. I've known him since I was 8. He and his wife were like second parents. He was there at all my important life moments. I have SO many memories. And I'm just gutted by his loss.
Sometimes it's easy to know what to say and do when someone passes away. But other times, I don't know. It's an awkward situation all around, one that no one ever wants to be in. So remember to:
--Focus on the individual.
--Be specific.
--Avoid platitudes and cliches.
--Email is acceptable, but no emojis.
--If sending a gift, consider tokens of beauty.
--Don't worry about condolences being "too late."
