Tips for Taking Better Photos, According to Professionals

Photo: Getty Images

Sometimes I'll see a shot on social by a friend or a niece that looks like it came from a magazine and think that my photos need to be better. I'm never going to be a professional photographer but there are a couple of things to help.

Keep the filters to a minimum. Less is more.

Look for the light. It doesn’t have to be natural light either.

Perfect your pose. Stick your chin either forward or down, put one hand in your pocket, and either place one leg in front of the other or cross your ankles to create the illusion of a long, straight line. Find what works for you.

Go for a pro. Hire a professional if you don’t think you’re doing a good enough job.

Take time to curate. Delete photos. When you have too many those photos get out of control and they're no longer a resource.
