Talking To Your Kids About Coronavirus

I was hoping it would be easier to talk to my kids. They're 4. They don't understand not being able to do the things they did before like going shopping or to the park or playing with their friends.

I've kind of mentioned it to them, but telling them there is a disease out there that's making people sick sounds pretty bad to a kid.

Here are some ways to help talk to your kids about COVID-19.

Make children feel safe.

Give them facts and let them lead the discussion.

Give them power — and responsibility.

Let them know what to expect.

Empathy, empathy, empathy.

Keep your child’s developmental stage and temperament in mind.

Try to maintain a normal routine.

Model the behavior you want to see.

Consider loosening screen time limits a little.

Take care of yourself.

You think you got it? Now go for it!
