Help Kids Cope With Disappointment During the Pandemic

Unfortunately a lot of things aren't happening like we planned or hoped. For kids, this can be really hard so it's up to us, as parents, to help them.

Children look to us to see how we handle the situation. If we keep calm about it, then they will too.

Help your children set reasonable expectations. It was normal to have big graduation parties with family and friends. Since it's different now, help them understand what graduations or birthday parties look like right now.

It’s important for little ones to experience disappointment, even if they’re really young.

Help them talk about exactly why they’re disappointed.

Don’t dwell on past events that could lead to making your child feel depressed. Instead, help your child focus ahead to new plans for the future.
