We are under a heat advisory today. Temps could get up to 102⁰, with a heat index hitting 112⁰!
The record for today was set back in 1910: 104⁰. Could we beat that? Possibly. And heat that high puts a strain on our electrical utilities.
So how can you stay cool while still conserving energy?
⁰ Adjust the Thermostat to 78
⁰ Install a timer on your pool pump
⁰ Only turn on lights you need
⁰ Don’t use your oven. Prepare cold dishes, such as salads and sandwiches.Use your microwave to heat those leftovers!
⁰ Replace your a/c filters once a month or more if they get dirty.
⁰ Line dry clothes to keep you from having to use your hot dryer.
⁰ Locate and eliminate leaks.
⁰ Maximize the energy efficiency of your water heater by setting it to 120 degrees and install a water heater blanket.
⁰ Ceiling fans are a great way to increase the comfort of a room. Fans can make you feel up to four degrees cooler than the thermostat setting.
Please take care of yourself by drinking plenty of water, staying in the shade or a/c and reschedule strenuous outdoor activity to early mornings or late at night.
