How To Gracefully Change the Subject of a Conversation

I don't like to talk politics or religion. And these days I don't like to get into discussions about masks and vaccinations. I find them uncomfortable. And I know that no matter what I say I won't change the other person's beliefs. So how do you change the subject?

One of the best ways to change the conversation is simply to acknowledge what the other person is saying before you move on to the next topic.

Redirect the conversation onto another subject.

Establish boundaries by simply stating that you don’t want to talk about that subject.

Literally exit the conversation and excuse yourself politely.
