Less than a month ago, LeBron James' son Bronny suffered a heart attack but thankfully survived. He's only a freshman at USC. Last week, a 16 year old named Callie Mitchell suffered cardiac arrest at a cheer camp at Texas A&M and died (full disclosure, she was the friend of our boss' daughter). Young! TOO young!
An organization called AugustHeart is offering free heart screening to all teens ages 13 to 18. This is a great opportunity to learn more about your child's heart health.
The screenings are this Saturday (August 19) from 10 a.m. until noon at The College of Health Care Professions South Campus (1964 SW Military Drive, San Antonio, TX 78221). This screening includes an electrocardiogram (ECG), an echocardiogram (ECHO) if needed, and review by a cardiologist.
♥ A parental waiver must be signed in order for your teen to receive a heart screening.
♥ Teens should wear loose-fitting clothing.
♥ Cardiologist will be onsite, so results will be immediate.
♥ The screening process typically takes approximately 20 minutes per student. Note that average wait times will vary.
♥ Screenings are offered at no charge. For those choosing to make an optional donation, $25 offsets the cost to screen one student.
