Great news for the San Antonio Zoo when they found out they can open Friday, May 29th (at 25% capacity). But the bad news is that they are hurting for money to support their animals. President Tim Morrow says they've taken drastic lengths to make sure the animals are taken care of: furloughing employees, dipping into emergency funds, deferring payments...kind of like what other companies and people are doing. Did you know it costs half a million dollars each week to operate the zoo? And they are 100% non-profit.
So to subsidize an income they've gotten so creative! You can take part in their drive-through experience which is $60 (per car) for non-members, $32 for members. That's going on through Thursday (the 21st).
Virtual behind-the-scenes tours are available starting at $30 and a Zoom link for groups of up to six. Visitors can get an up-close look at the fan-favorite hippos, Timothy and Uma, as well as the elephants, giraffes, rhinos and more.
You can send a special message for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations. For $75, the zoo will record a personalized message featuring an animal that you can send to family and friends.
And tired of your same-old meetings online? The zoo is also offering 10 and 15-minute animal appearances for team Zoom meetings starting at $100
You can also adopt-an-animal or adopt-a-keeper, too!
And don't forget to donate to their Emergency Fund that's helping them keep their animals safe.
