San Antonio's solid waste management department is hosting five centers throughout January that are accepting trees. Trees taller than 6 feet must be cut in half and all lights, decorations, and stands (even the wooden ones) must be removed prior to dropping it off.

January 2-31, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Bitters Brush Recycling Center - 1800 Wurzbach Parkway
  • SWMD Highway 90 - 5450 Castroville Road

January 4-15, Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon

  • Culebra Road Drop-Off Center - 7030 Culebra Road
  • Frio City Road Drop-Off Center - 1531 Frio City Road
  • Rigsby Road Drop-Off Center - 2755 Rigsby Road

Free tree mulch will be available at the Bitters site about two weeks after each of the events while supplies last.

TDS, which has been helping the San Antonio community recycle organic holiday décor for more than a decade, will accept a variety of items at its Christmas tree collection sites, including live Christmas trees, holly, pumpkins, and other living decorations, which are repurposed into mulch and compost through TDS’ composting division.
