I have 3 cats. They are not spooked by anything, including fireworks. And I've been lucky to have dogs who weren't either. That being said, a lot of people do have pets that get scared. I had a boss whose dog crashed through a plate glass window to get away from the sounds. My mom had a dog that needed a thundershirt to deal with the noise.
So it's important you protect your animals this fourth of July weekend.
⁰ Microchip your pet in case they become lost
⁰ Make sure any doors and windows in your home are shut. Your pets can become extremely distressed by the loud noises of fireworks, and they may make a run for it.
⁰ Give your pet a safe space to retreat. Grab your dog's favorite toy and a few blankets and let him wait out the fireworks in a secluded, quiet space. Fireworks too loud? Try putting on music or turning the TV up to drown them out.
⁰ Divert their attention. Try giving your pet a new bone or chew toy to distract them from the fireworks booming outside.
⁰ Talk with your vet to see if your pet might benefit from alternative options to reduce stress.
